Synopsis
Automatombs aims to further explore the theme of the undead in the Warhammer 40k universe, specifically those of extended/unnatural life through technological, psychic or otherworldly means. Unlike general 40K Automatombs aims to focus on smaller warbands and individuals, forging a narrative out of the obscure grimdark corners of the universe.
Core Concept
Automatombs is primarily a theme for producing 28mm scale miniatures grounded in the Warhammer 40k universe focusing predominantly on the undead. However since the subject of death is so commonplace (and varied) in the 41st millennium the scope for such a project is vast and largely open to interpretation, this can be somewhat of a blessing and a curse. Rather than trying to create one long common thread that coherently links all of these scenarios together, think of it as many small threads loosely tied to create an overarching theme. The hope is that as people take part and add their own spin to things, the project will become clearer and more refined. If you decide to take part in this project please get in touch and share your models using the hashtag #automatombs40k .

“A million bodies ground to dust, a million corpses lie motionless expunged of life, a million souls reborn against their will. Even in death, the eternal nightmare continues.”
Creating A Miniature
- Is the subject still “alive” in body or soul, or is their corpse simply a puppet/host for a greater power?
- Who was the subject in life? A rich noble in the dogged pursuit of eternal youth, or a lowly pauper reanimated from slumber to do their new masters bidding?
- What arcane technology holds their frail corpse together? Is it mostly of physical or psychic nature?
- What is their primary goal/function? Perhaps they possess none, wandering aimlessly in a decrepit corner of the universe.
- Do they still possess any physical form or are they entirely corporeal?
- On what planet/plane of existence do they currently reside and how did they end up there?
